normal guy
maybe his best novel tbh ceaseless barreling plot rendered in his tightest ever prose, some really nasty bits

kinda fun but i think guy was more interested in writing about the paris commune than werewolves

thinner than some others but the style is all there and the football stuff is great so i love it of course. that dry, clipped, hypertechnical dialogue - da best. i do find his abject fear of collectivism/conformity, and how he presents this as an essentially “asian” trait, intriguing but strange tbh

greatest fucking book i’ve ever read. only wish it were 200 pages longer with a lot more reform bill and railroad material

at a certain point it’s like okay, you’re carrying the fire and it’s all so very hard and bleak i get it. but i’m mostly really into this tbh. badly needed to read a good novel again. also puts into perspective how much of the genre is fascist crap about how cool it would be to kill people

awful until it gets really lurid and depraved in the middle then it’s at least sort of engaging for awhile before it goes back to being total dogshit - sorry, brian 😔
