Thanks for having me! @eurosky.social as a mix of government / policy / media / builders was a really great event.

Gives me a lot of hope & energy to see the interest in the room. We can do better than #wurstsky!

And all of those App Stores could be using an app Lexicon, and get curated for unique needs, with social signals and ownership details.

Finland uses “Russia-gauge” rails. They are going to move to European compatible rail gauge for their own resilience.

This is what we should be thinking about for moving to open social away from American platforms: it should come with significant spending commitments & is absolutely necessary […]

I did a year after high school on a tall ship and travelled around the South Pacific.

I came back and debated between chef & marine biologist (because I thought I could swim with dolphins as a job).

Chose university, failed 2nd year organic chem, switched to CompSci major, hired by Nortel […]

“[open social] must be funded like infrastructure, not consumer apps. In fact, given the scale of hybrid threats, it should be funded from defense budgets, not innovation leftovers.

The strategic layer of democracy is the information layer. And right now, it is outsourced.” @seabass.bsky.social […]

The business panel, Rebuilding Value Chains for the Open Web.

Mostly about advertising. In the backchannel “do we want to accept a little poison”?

Another great panel (I am often down on panels). Catherine Tait from @newpublic.org very much saying traditional media & public broadcasters “are over”.

I think bringing a static website to a network battle doesn’t work. People don’t “live” on public broadcaster websites […]

Ordered a Modelo upgraded to a Michelada. I’m just an uncultured Canadian so this is not what I was expecting. It’s awesome!

Much thanks and heartfelt support to @erlend for writing up the kind of article that I, too, have been dreading to have to write: that absolutist OSS is bad and we protect the commons with fair licensing, non-commercial and otherwise

Anti-fascistic software is made possible by pro-labor licensing. https://blog.muni.town/open-source-power/ I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink, more so here on the fediverse than anywhere else. But I'm scared and tired and we urgently need to get our shit together. #OpenSource #foss #licensing

I’m excited to see the return of Steam Machine.

With my experiments of using the Linux Desktop mode with the Steamdeck … this absolutely puts a full Linux server in a lot of homes.

A good spot for a PDS, Tailscale, and a bunch of other things.
