An indie-pop-rock band led by a guy and his two stuffed animal pals.
I believe some of this is because Spotify and YouTube (maybe others) have ad-supported versions where listeners can hear it all and pay virtually nothing--so lower rates. That's the charitable way to explain it, anyway. Spotify and YT are also huge and can just do what they want, it seems.

I was thinking about this, too. It IS like old school radio since people can listen to a song for free, but sooner or later you’d have to buy the 45 or album. Now you can just stream it all forever. It’s an okay concept, but they need to pay better rates if this is going to be the default system.

Looks about right. I regularly make over 10x more from a single live show than an entire year of streams.

I don't sell streams. I just sell digital copies of my tracks. And I'm able to get a decent cut, since the platform I'm on (BandCamp) only takes 10-15%. I think overall BandCamp is just a lot more friendly to indie artists than platforms like Spotify.
