Just a nerdy otter who loves talking about stuff nobody else seems to find interesting.
Not a linguist, but it's my Roman Empire.

And then, the most curious paper of the bunch (new author this time): www.mdpi.com/2226-471X/7/...
It looks like several Russian-Chinese pidgins are being (re)introduced by modern-day Russians and Chinese interacting with each other. And they share some similarities with the previous version.

Then, I found a paper about the *modern* pidgin (again by the same author): tinyurl.com/n5eatvnc
It was published in 2021. What stands out is its list of speakers, which consists of 9 people, the youngest of whom was 67 at the time.
And yeah, this is the Ussuriysk dialect I mentioned earlier.

There's a rather derogatory Russian phrase “моя твоя не понимать” (me not understand). It's used to mock people who speak Russian ungrammatically since it's not their mother tongue.
Turns out it actually comes from a real (albeit extinct) language, Kyakhta Russian-Chinese Pidgin

I've found another paper by Michael Fiddler, in which he also suggests that it might (or might not) be an areal feature: www.internationalphoneticassociation.org/icphs-procee...

I present to you the Cube Rule of Food Identification: cuberule.com

As today is #WorldEmojiDay, I want to share a curious little story about the Marshallese language 🇲🇭
Or should I call it M⚽sh☯️ll☕z?

This language features an odd sound system. Its consonants have their quirks, but it's the unhinged vowel sounds that make Marshallese unique.

Kind of off-topic, but I got curious and googled what this mysterious red-and-white beast is. I find it amusing that this intimidating creature is… just a cow, lol

Other “beasts” from the list are a small bird (ingqabe), another cow (inqombokazi), and a chicken (ngqoqo)
