I've been thinking all day about what I wanted to say about the 10th of January 2016. What I was feeling when the news broke, how I spent the day etc. Then I found this comment I wrote on the bowiesongs blog that I had completely forgotten about:

And so DB's birthday wraps up with a sudden snowstorm, which I can only imagine is a Thin White Duke reference.

There will surely be a lot said today about ★, the final David Bowie album, on its tenth anniversary but one question I suspect won't be asked enough is... how's everyone's die-cut LP sleeve holding up?

On Béla Tarr: I saw The Turin Horse at a film retreat outside of Newcastle in 2014. I mean I saw a lot of films that weekend but that was the one that really stuck in my mind. I need to make time to watch more of his work.

Happy 10 year anniversary to that leak of Blackstar that turned up online a day before the official release but apparently had some audio glitch throughout. I remember downloading it but never actually listening to it.

It's wild to me that you can just go to Tesco and buy a toy of Nack The Weasel from Sonic Triple Trouble.

So is that new Bowie doc just pedalling the old "David lost his way in the 80s and 90s and only got good again when he did Glastonbury" story? Because if that's the case I'm not interested.

Should've posted this a couple days ago but…

Waltz In Orbit by Ray Cathode (Maddalena Fagandini and George Martin). The b-side of their only single "Time Beat". A few weeks later Martin would meet The Beatles. Fagandini would continue at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop before becoming a TV producer.

Just watching a 70s documentary about Termite Terrace and I'm obsessed with this bit where Chuck Jones makes it very clear that femme Bugs Bunny gives him the horn.

You don't need a TV licence to listen to BBC Radio.

I had to argue this with two different people this week. Might've just been a coincidence but just in case.. now you know.

I don't need to know what Starmer is saying about all of this. It's all war crime madlibs at this point.

Eno diary, year's end 1995. Thanks, Brian: it's been fun looking back 30 years with you.

More 2025 thoughts: I was a little apprehensive about there being a new Stereolab album. The other post Mary Hansen albums were missing something that I was worried they might never get back. But overall I think they found a good balance of playing to their strengths while maturing their sound.

I've not seen much talk about it since it's release but the fact that an album of unheard Erik Satie compositions came out this year is WILD.

Taking a look back at some of the new music I heard this year and this song by Alice Boyd still just stops me in my tracks each time I hear it.
