Organizer, antifacist, queer, nonbinary, non-monogamous, neurodivergent, former communard (and maybe again someday, we'll see).

Currently: Cville. Previously: Vermont, Louisa, NYC, Goucher, Lehigh Valley.

imo Mamdani's language focus was a big part of this winning strategy- Zohranfornyc.com is available in 8 languages (English, Spanish, Arabic, French, Bangla, Haitian Creole, Simplified Chinese, Urdu).

Last I checked in mid June, all other NYC mayoral candidates' websites were English only.

What a shit way to wake up.

UVA's alert system is so bad, I can't express how incredibly unhelpful these msgs were to me as Cville resident & friend/family of a kid on campus.

Nice to know (sarcasm) we can always depend on UVa to communicate info about shootings in the least helpful way possible.

I really wish BlueSky had picked a different color, because at this point on Twitter the blue check means "they're definitely a bigot, probably a facist, & possibly a bot".

Maybe someday I'll care about someone's verification status & uncheck the box, for now the blue check is too toxic even on BS.

The judge seems unamused, I can almost hear the "dumbass" in this order.

I esp enjoyed when he pointed out that the gov't is posting vid & details of these flights almost they are happening, so Boasberg is "unsure at this time how compliance with its Minute Order would jeopardize state secrets."

The runners up and honorable mentions are really great as well, I think my new goal in life is to be as chill and relaxed as this seal looks right now.

And look at this adorable little shrew! So cute! (I pulled alt-text from the BBC site, my alt-text writing is nowhere near that polished yet).

Just read "Who Goes Nazi?" for the 1st time since college (2000), and wow it's still pretty accurate in 2024. Like, "Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi" is playing out as we speak.

For context, this was published in August 1941. Pearl Harbor was attacked in December 1941.

In 2021 there was news coverage of the ban and the gov said the law could/should be amended to narrow the restriction (for ex, applying to someone who is doing a crime), but it didn't happen then and I doubt it will happen now under the Republican governor. Sigh.

Here's a link and screenshot of the current law in VA. This law doesn't include anything about a crime being committed, just on intent to disguise. law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title...

What does "most people on the [UHC person-of-interest] list have been already been dismissed by using social media" even mean?

Like, did the cops find Facebook obits for most of the people who had motives, so now they're checking out the live ones or is this creepy tracking stuff? This is weird.

Screenshot for posterity (and so I remember where I'm keeping these receipts). I would def recommend reading the full article, but fair warning- every paragraph made me more furious than the last, I hate the suffering caused by for-profit healthcare systems with the fire of a thousand suns. 2 of 2

Fun fact that many people don't know about epilepsy till it's personal- uncontrolled seizures increase the risk of SUDEP & more seizures means more risk.

SUDEP is Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. "SUDEP takes more lives annually in the United States than sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)."

Are you fucking kidding me? Their food was fine, but not good enough to give my money to people who use sexism (and/or just being bad at math) as a punchline in their promos.

I hate capitalism.

Don't cross the picket line.

"From Black Friday to Cyber Monday (29 November to 2 December) we are uniting across the globe for one thing: to
Make Amazon Pay."

Visit makeamazonpay.com to learn more, find actions in your area, & download a Make Amazon Pay Toolkit (where I found this image).

I also appreciate author Bailey Gallion bluntly calling a neo-Nazi a neo-Nazi (MANY times) & framing the community pushback positively. That matters.

neo-Nazis were detained
neo-Nazis approach
neo-Nazis hands
neo-Nazis had told police
neo-Nazis they were free to go
neo-Nazi named in the report

Oh don't worry, the internet dwellers can get in on it too- no cable subscription needed. Their "Standard" option is $14.88 . Wow.

Actually, no matter what size pillow they're shopping for, Kings, Queens, "Multi-Use MyPillows" (I don't want to know what uses, tbh), all end in 88 (w/ promo code).

Interesting for Q3 2024 though, esp with the impact of economy on the election in the rearview (curious to see Q4 2024 and Q1 2025). "Self-reported financial wellbeing fell substantially to a new record low" and "Job seekers’ assessments of current labor market conditions continued to deteriorate."

I'd also really love to see the cross tabs for that 2022 data, especially for the 30% ish of people who were having financial difficulties during their job search when they answered that question. Did financial struggles impact responses at all, did it vary by major or by industry? I wish I knew.

The article also contains one of my pet-peeve errors: it links to the main dashboard page of an ongoing survey that's updated regularly, not a specific data set or file. I was unable to find any Nov 2022 regretted college major info on that page. sigh.

I know someday (likely soon!) I will read and appreciate all of these touching articles- but not today.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Today I'm sad, tired, scared for myself & my community.

Today I'll remember that when I can't survive out of joy, it's ok to survive out of spite.

Update- the autoplay setting has moved to Content and Media settings. BlueSky gets bonus points from me for including that message under the accessibility settings.

Pleased and impressed at how much the settings interface has improved since I joined a few days ago. Not perfect, but solid work.

"Stormfront" is a White Nationalist website.

The account in the screenshot is not a Rep McBride fan account, it is an account run by people who proudly reference their account on a neo-nazi website.

I'm guessing some of those 424 followers don't realize that. (or at least I hope that's the case).

Yeah, I feel this. My first introduction social media were AOL chatrooms in late 1990s, and the social media platform I've used the most in the past decade is Reddit. I know how to curate my experience and pick my battles online- the issues I have with X are more than just "it's full of Nazis".
