This probably wasn't actually the first, but my strongest early memory of being scared by a game was when I played Ocarina of Time. It wasn't even the Bottom of the Well or the Shadow Temple that got me, it was the Beamos at the beginning of Dodongo's cavern.

I'm personally a fan of the pirate eye patch Alan Wake wears if you pirate the first game. It's incredibly simple as far as costumes go, but the context makes it really funny.

Hopefully I don't get in trouble for breaking kayfabe here, but I still get a laugh every time I look at this fake game box I bought at the local joke shop. I do sometimes wonder what these games are actually like though.

My fave controller rn is the HORI OCTA. It has microswitches on most of its buttons (the 4 small oval buttons being exceptions), a pretty nice d-pad with adjustable sensitivity that can be set different for all 8 directions, and a good joystick. It's great for fighting games or N64 emulation!

I don't remember if he's canonically American, but I've heard that Bobobo was at least heavily based on American stereotypes in Japan from the late 90s/early 2000s.
