* Aurian (Maggie Furey)
* Dragons of Autumn Twilight (Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman)
* so many David Eddings books
* The Misenchanted Sword (Lawrence Watt-Evans)
* some of the later Pern books (Anne McCaffrey)

I also don't remember coming across any Urban Fantasy until the late 90s/early 00s. There was some 80s/90s fantasy set on Earth (with magic) but most of what I read was set in an alternate world. Also, I remember most of it being in a series.

80s/90s fantasy to me was all Sword & Sorcery, third person POV, usually epic storytelling with a big cast of characters. It might have just been the books I was picking, but I don't remember it getting as dark as fantasy sometimes gets these days. (But most of it wasn't cozy, either.)
