I had the pleasure of speaking at Oak Grove Elementary in Lexington, SC! I talked w/ the students about my writing process, answered questions (laughed at their jokes 😅) and signed some books. I love their library so much! It was colorful and cozy. 🥰 School visits are my fave!

I was honored at the grade school district’s Black History Month celebration! 🙌🏽 From ages 5-17, I’ve honed my love of creative writing here. I’ve been both an honor student and a struggling student. Writing about Black history and joy (especially when it’s local) is truly a joy of mine. ⭐️ #GodisGood

Kendrick said "I make music that electrify 'em, you make music that pacify 'em."

Music is one of the ways we accurately recall history - when we look back at the Super Halftime show of 2025, we'll be able to see a snapshot of the current climate and what a call to action looked like.

Beyoncé won ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Even though this award feels like it was LONG overdue - I can't help but feel inspired as a fellow Black American Southern Girl that she won for an album that reclaimed a genre that was stolen and repackaged, that she was shut out of.

It snowed in the Carolinas, so of course I had to have a mini photoshoot with my debut novel, a ghost story for kids set in the snowy Carolinas 🤭❄️

GIRL FROM THE ASHES, my newest, follows Carter John and his best friend Gianna. Carter John stumbles upon a ghost in his local (haunted) library, who wants revenge... but for what? This one talks of segregated libraries and space.

I talk a lot about it in my presentations, but there are personal anecdotes in all my books, and I too, "failed" swimming lessons at age 9 because I had apathetic, teenage swim instructor. This one, like all of my books, was personal. 💜

Next up, we're talking about my second MG novel, THE GIRL IN THE LAKE. This one follows Celeste as she "fails" her swimming lessons and goes to her Lifeguard Grandad's (haunted) lake house to learn how to swim. This one talks of segregated swimming pools and its affects.

My 1st book: THE FORGOTTEN GIRL - a Middle Grade novel that follows two best friends, Iris and Daniel, as they sneak out during a snowstorm and awaken a ghost in an abandoned and segregated graveyard. This book was RECOMMENDED BY KOBE BRYANT and nominated for an NAACP.
