It soon became obvious to me that my life was now in the hands of people from the four corners of the world - literally. Having very little else to do, I started taking an interest where the people who were treating me were from, eventually assembling all the flags of their countries into one picture. By the end of my treatment, I think that there were nineteen flags, each one representing a person who had played a vital part in my treatment and recovery. Some that stand out were a doctor from Libya, a surgeon from India, a nurse from Ireland who seemed to be in perpetual motion trying to cope with the number of people in her care and a nurse from Spain who, when I was at my absolute lowest ebb, was so caring and gentle that it made me determined to get better so I could thank her for her kindness. The concept of the NHS is a beautiful thing, even in its current threadbare state, having been abused and neglected by politicians for decades. One of its great strengths is the willingness of people from other countries who are prepared to come here to look after us - something that I for one, will be eternally grateful. And that is why I listened with absolute disgust to Starmer's plans to prevent the NHS from recruiting overseas. This is the person who is completely relaxed about American companies snatching any part of the NHS that they can get their grubby hands on to exploit for financial gain. It is almost as though he wants to obliterate our health care system almost as completely as his close friends have done in Gaza. And meanwhile, most of the Labour MPs who sit behind him in parliament are letting him get away with it - Nye Bevan and the genuine Keir must be rotating in their graves!

One wouldn't expect economic literacy from someone who appears to believe that the way to enrich a nation is to impoverish its populace and destroy and auction its public infrastructure and services and is so up herself that she actually believes her job gives her a right to to sell off our nation.
