If one thing is clear after all of that, we need to do the work ourselves and demonstrate that we can provide what the state refuses to. Nothing will come of it without that, with the second lesson here being that there has to be a reckoning among liberals - their ways do not work. /End

And like always, many of the same kind of people who show up but shirk at the work we tell them is needed to build alternate structures of power that serve human needs first always end up back in that familiar fold, effectively siloed from us and the work needed. /8

Every cycle it’s the same messaging: “We agree that these are problems, but right now we have to defeat the latest imminent evil on the other side. Once we do that and get elected, then we will do something.” It is always empty promises there. It is literally “choose your warlord”. /7

And all as they all fall in line to avoid their own wealth being impacted by the inevitable taxes that come with such programs, such initiatives. It’s the same for their donor class, some of whom I have worked for - they prefer minimalist reforms that won’t harm them in substantial ways. /6

Things like strict rent controls, strong worker protections, expansive personal time off laws, stringent price gouging laws, universal health care (including mental, vision and dental), low to zero personal cost higher education, strict tenant protection laws - all left unaddressed every year. /5
