I picked up Drive by local TLH author, @ridetrips.bsky.social, at my local indy bookstore (Midtown Reader). I finished it last night and would highly recommend it. The book is the true story of a newly divorced dad trying to keep his dignity in the gig economy. Eye opening. #books #readthis

Happy 249th birthday America! Smoked a couple of racks to celebrate, and they should go well with my saison. #bbq #cooking

OG temperature adjusted is 1.046, so looking at a beer around 4.7% ABV. A little low for the style, but we'll see how it goes. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer

Step 9: Poured the wort into the carboy once it was around 90⁰F. Time to toss it in the ferm chamber to bring it to 70⁰F before pitching the yeast. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer

Step 7: Whirflock at 10 mins left, unicorn seasoning with 5 mins left, and some additional Amarillo and Mosaic hops at flame out. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer

Step 4: Added 0.1 oz of Mosaic and 0.05 oz of Amarillo to the wort and brought it to a boil. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer
July 3, 2025 at 10:39 PM
Step 2: Mashed out at 170⁰F and then strained into the "brew kettle." I normally don't mash out, but figured I stick to the kit's directions. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer

Step 1: Brought two quarts of water to 163⁰F, added the grains and mashed for 60 mins at about 150⁰F. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beer

Alright, it's been about a week since my carboy disaster. Time to get back on the brewing horse and brew a Unicorn IPA kit from the Brooklyn Brew Shop. Giddy up! #homebrewing #homebrewer #beer

And the night ends in disaster. I went to lift the carboy out of the ice bath and it had cracked in half. Gutted but grateful I didn't cut myself. On to the next brew... #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

Time for my least favorite part of the brew day, cooking the wort. Opted for an ice bath (since it's a tiny batch). And now we wait... #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

Post-boil OG was 1.032 at 173⁰F, temperature adjusted 1.059. If the yeasties do their job this is a 6.3% ABV brew. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

Pre-boil OG was 1.028 at 135⁰F, temperature adjusted 1.040. This is going to be a hefty Belgian... #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

It's time to boil! Add 1/3 of the hops at 60, 30, and 15 mins remaining. Whirfloc at 10 mins. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

It's time to batch sparge..Put the grains back into the mash tun, heat up 1 gal of water to 170⁰F and add to the grains. Bring the temp back up to 168⁰F. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer
June 27, 2025 at 2:04 AM
Next step, transfer the grains to a large strainer and drain the wort into the boil kettle (aka a slightly larger pot). #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

The tiny mash tun held its temp fairly well for an hour (152⁰F to 144⁰F). Mashed out at 170⁰F. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer

Step three, make the mash tun cozy. I wrapped it in a down jacket and blanket. I'll check on it in a bit to see how the temp holds. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer
June 27, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Step two, mix in the grains. The temp was a little low at 150⁰F, so I added a little heat and got it up to 152⁰F. #homebrewing #homebrewery #beersky #brewsky #beer
