Resident Bills Homer

Husband and father who cares way too much about football. Buffalo Bills, Bama Crimson Tide. UAB Blazers. UGA by marriage. Strong opinions on Warhammer, rail transportation, and defense issues.
Jammed with post college Brookies, from my experience. The people aren’t bad, it’s the sheer number of them.

Two missed field goals! We should say it again

That missed FG was awful

Too crowded for my taste, but it’s a good place. Um…not shocked about ownership

Loved his BBQ and for what the Soul Kitchen did in Avondale.

I went to Big Blue Bagel on the other end. It was open from 2011-2012 I think. Thursday was Pint Night. It failed because of bad management.

Mortarion does not care about Shower Discipline, much to Derek Dooley’s chagrin. But Fulgrim is Very Interested.

Magnus wants to run crazy spread offenses, and Leman Russ knows this leads to Chaos or worse…Communism.

I think it was Open Door, but they closed by sometime in 2009, 2010 at the latest. He and partners renovated it as Ore. Was nice but didn’t do well. Taylor’s partners weren’t sharp. He then got together with the Saw’s crew. Been printing money since

Then GF now wife lived on the street behind it.

He was a partner in Ore before it became the Juke Joint. I appreciated him taking part in getting that up and running (had been vacant for a bit). Also drove an Audi R-8 (?) the first year they were out, which was pretty cool.

It’s been a long time since I read that book. I should do a re-read.

Fantastic book. Read it as a freshman in college. Bought a copy for my dad. He liked it.

Before Alabama liberalized it’s beer laws, Rogue had a good presence here. Disappeared for along while, but has shown up again.

I’m sorry it’s closing. It was really good beer.

I don’t think it would be possible from a cultural standpoint point to be Nashville or Austin. The have been nexus’ of music for 100 and 55 years respectively. And they have UT and Vandy.

So yeah, let’s try to be the best version of who we can be, though I have doubts as to whether it’s possible

BHM MSA folks: “we could be big like Nashville if we’d get our act together”

I’m cool with some Fortune 500 companies locating here and improving the economy, but Safe Vegas…no thank you

I remember Plant in an interview trying to make “Evermore” being about something bigger. I was like “man, c’mon. It’s LOTR stuff. “

That’s a reasonable take. And it’s why I’d be hesitant to implement what I suggested.

Local to me, Holy Family and St Barnabas cater to underserved populations.

Altamont and Indian Springs do not. (Full disclosure: I have family and acquaintances that went to both of these schools).

The George Wallace Route…oh boy

They’re good schools to be sure. My experience with Montessori schools is that they are aimed at the wealthy. Parochial…can go either way. I can think of some locally that specifically target kids in poverty areas to try and give them a really good education

I can’t figure if he straight up sold out for power, was lying all along, or a little of both.

As long as there aren’t state appropriations to home schools…I don’t think I’ll object on elitism. I think it does a disservice to the kids though
November 14, 2025 at 1:22 PM
If you want to curtail elitism, the Choates and Sidwell Friends have to go
November 14, 2025 at 1:19 PM
If you want to break elitism…IMO it has to be no more private high schools, parochial, secular… doesn’t matter

If one is Protestant and blindly following a pastor…I think the person is missing out on the Protestant heritage. The pastor shouldn’t be teaching bad theology and falsehoods, but Matthew 10:16 sticks out to me.

Nasal Deep South accent and a Bills hat? Reasonable chance it’s me
