i think it’s 3 main reasons depending on the person
1. they’re self centered & inconsiderate to others (maybe feeling age has earned them some leniency)
2. they’re hard of hearing and don’t realize how loud they are
3. they don’t understand that monopolizing a public space with sound is rude
