I couldn’t finish it for exactly this reason. Every time it started to look interesting, they killed the momentum with some kind of pointless fan service moment.

If you’re looking for something recent, I just started watching Interior Chinatown and it’s been pretty great so far. It’s a fun premise (guy slowly realises he is a background character in a police procedural) and Jimmy Yang is great in it.

I’m serious. I saw him do a double Cruyff turn cut back on Cristiano Ronaldo (just outside the Sunderland box) and deliberately plank on the floor and do a roll to amuse the fans in the same game.

Greatest footballer of all time by a wide margin, just didn’t really care about winning plaudits.

Anyone who likes Oasis, even self-consciously, is a huge loser who should be bullied relentlessly in this life and the next.

The fundamental hubris of liberalism leads to fascism in the prequels, bourgeois liberals exploit the marginalised to regain power in the originals, they fail to maintain said power & by the time the sequels roll around we have fascism again. All the while, nothing improves for the working class.

… without actually offering meaningful change of circumstance for those marginalised groups once the revolution is over.

If you view the Jedi/galactic republic as much the baddies as the empire, Star Wars actually functions as an unintentionally very good critique of liberalism & exploitation.

The main driver of both Gilroy and Lucas’ framings of rebellion is centrist pearl clutching and those driving force establishment figures exploit the necessity of revolutionary action from the marginalised to achieve their goal: the aforementioned return to liberal orthodoxy…

I would be inclined to disagree slightly.

Lucas Star Wars is effectively ’rebellion as a mean of return to liberal orthodoxy’ and Han only assists because he can get something out of it (first money then shagging Leia) as is the lib way.

And that’s before we get into the valid criticisms of their time in office that the mainstream media completely ignores like their incredibly racist immigration policy and them being complicit in a genocide against Palestinians and actively pursuing a legislative genocide against trans people.

Several of these reforms are objectively bad and several more are completely meaningless management speak for exacerbating existing problems and inequalities in society through inaction.

All this article really proves is that Starmer’s Labour have tried nothing and they are all out of ideas.
