Bumped into an amateur photographer on the beach at Druridge a couple of weeks ago. Turns out - unbeknownst to us - he'd taken a photo of Stu and I out surfing a couple of years back and won a competition with the photo. Jimmy Morse from Northumberland, go and check out his stuff on Faffbook 👍

Another sunrise over the North Sea. Too bumpy for paddleboarding; not bumpy enough for surfing. Nonetheless, an excellent morning.
Just before dawn, looking out to see across the beach at Hadston Scaurs. Sky is a mix of oranges, reds, purples, and cold grays. Pumping up paddleboards just before sunrise at the beach. Colours in the North Sea and sky starting to fade as the sun sits just below the horizon. Paddleboard sitting ready on the shoreline as the sun breaks over the horizon. The sea and wet sand reflect the newly risen sun. Me (testing a waterproof case for my phone) getting photo-bombed while trying to find a bit of the sea that is flat enough to stand up on. Out at sea looking back at the Northumberland coast.

Lovely, peaceful morning paddleboarding up the Northumberland coast with my surf buddy Stu. Brain reset for the week. Nice mind.
Two muckle old grey bearded gadgees drinking tea to warm up after a few hours in the North Sea. The sea is behind them and almost looks like a lake it is so flat and calm. Up on the Isle of Lewis collecting stone circles like Pokémon, only much, MUCH better
Callanais (kal-a-nish) stone circle on the Isle of Lewis. The sun is rising behind the standing stones, casting long shadows across the grass. Callanais 8 - one of the many smaller stone circles - this one is on the island of Great Bernera. Behind the stones there are 2 single track road and foot bridges crossing the sea to the Isle of Lewis. Callanais 4 - my favourite stone circle on Lewis - 5 stones standing on the top of a remote hillside circling a small, boggy pond. Spacing suggests there could have been 13 stones originally. Very magical. Callanais 2 - another smaller stone circle a short walk from the main Callanais site. You can follow the track and get to Callanais 3. The ground is very boggy, but the sky is clear blue.

After noticing a lot of pollution on this stretch of the River Coquet in Northumberland back in late Spring (dead fish, frogs and white powder encrusted rocks); I decided to do the #BigRiverWatch and #WaterBlitz pollution testing here. It looked much improved, but we'll see when the results are in.

The four corners of Dunstanburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast. Built in 1313 by Earl Thomas - a rival to Edward II - mostly to spoil the view from the then royalist castle at Bamburgh. Good that those with power and wealth these days are so much more sensible... hmmm...

Finishing off Sunday with a misty evening solo surf at Druridge Bay, Northumberland. Reflecting on how ridiculously lucky I am to live in this beautiful part of the world.
Sandy Beach with waves and sand dunes in tue distance. Mist is rolling up the beach. Some concrete blocks sticking out of the sand at Druridge Bay, Northumberland. The blocks were dropped on the beach during the Second World War to stop German tanks. Thankfully, never needed. Some wooden steps down onto the sand at Druridge Bay. Some more 'tank stoppers' sticking out of the sand. The sun is setting over the sand dunes. Me post surf, half way up the wooden steps with the beach and waves far off in the distance. Hood up to try and warm up after 90 minutes in the North Sea.

Lost in the woods in Northumberland (again)
A white sandy path leading through purple heather and bilberry bush. Up on top of Thrunton Crag. Heading back down into the woods. A dwindling path through the forest that absolutely, definitely used to be here. Getting a bit overgrown, but leads to the site of a small bronze age settlement on Castle Hill, Thrunton Woods. Up on top of Thrunton Crag looking down at the path I'd walked about 2 hours earlier. The stone is pure white Northumbrian sandstone and is well weathered and word. More gorgeous heather in purples and oranges. View from the top of a rock looking out over the woods. Climbed up to try and get my bearings.

First band listen through of the vinyl version of Superior Canid Style. A lot more middle cutting though, arguably a warmer more analogue sound. Pretty much what you would expect from vinyl. Not better, but quite a different listen.

Nathan, Steve and I sat around my old stereo listening to the vinyl version of our album for the first time together. Nathan is cradling his new telecaster. He played along with the whole album. Church Street in Whitby might be one of the best smelling places ever. Fresh breeze off the sea; coffee from multiple cafes, and Fortune's Kippers being smoked just beyond the 199 steps up to St. Mary's and the Abbey. Bloody marvelous.

Walked the River Coquet from Shillmoor, past Linbriggs, down to Linshiels today. Sadly, the river is in a horrendous state from pollution. Didn't see a single fish, not even a minow. Just some dead frogs and loads of brown sludge coating everything.

#northumbriawater you should be ashamed.
