2025 over! I have little to add to this list in terms of deep dives but I did spend variable amounts of time with dragon quest 5 on ds, mega man x legacy collection, chibi robo. Dabbled in elden ring, borderlands 4, and halo 2.

That said, if you enjoyed a game that way, it's worth giving it a go without them. Not all games are battletoads, some have forgiving lives/game over systems built in, like megaman or castlevania, and grinding out the route as designed is part of the fun.

Save states are a great way to speed up the process of learning an old game in an age when there is so much more competition for your time!

Mega man 2. Always a rental, over and over. Never bought it or beat it until they released the first anniversary collection in 2005. Now it's one of my favorite games and favorite series.

Man, I agree. It's been years since i read them but i remember feeling like the first one made a lot of big promises only to have the second one take the baton and just kind of wander off.
