Unfortunately, I’ve encountered it in real life. Two of my SA incidents were from people who justified it because of their adherence to the “BDSM Gospel” of strict dichotomies and hierarchies. I think which area of the “market” you operate in increases your chances of encountering it.

In my experience - Everybody wants to rely on the “BDSM is temporary fantasy” bit, but after being inundated in the culture for like 20 years now, I have encountered a disturbingly high amount of people who treat it with the zealotry of a radical religion.
