Everyone seeing the yurt bit is missing the heartwarming (or at least toe-warming) end to the tale!

I feel like we're in pretty good hands, frankly.

I'm tempted to text you so I can look up your building. Not to win an argument or anything - I believe you! Just curious!

Yiiiikes. Please sir may I have another.

Sure. But pre-wars aren't insulated. Heck, lot of post-wars aren't either. We do have ubiquitous double glazed windows becuse code. I have seen a tub in the kitchen in the past 30 years - never seen single-glazed. Wait, maybe at Stuy Town back in the 90s?

Errr, I'm not sure about that. You would think that they'd figure out how steam heat works if they were cost-sensitive. There is, of course, the fact that 99% of people who have ever known how to balance a steam heat building are dead and tsk-tsking from a perfectly 72-degree heaven.

and he proved my trust well placed: literally the day we were moving out, he had a crew in there air sealing and insulating from the inside - good man.

My favorite landlord ever has a total yurt of a building. I did all kinds of guerilla air sealing, and then I kinda got fed up with it, borrowed a $10k IR camera from a friend during a Jan cold snap and then sent him the photos. We were moving out in spring anyway, but I liked the guy

I mean, you can't really go wrong with ^that, but to be fair, the opposite problem rampant in NYC (too cold in summer and too hot in winter) is probably worse for everyone.
November 24, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Sounds like also poorly air sealed...? Goes with the rest of that set.

Maybe that guy was just real in tune with Hep B statistics www.ajmc.com/view/missed-... (nah.)
Missed Hepatitis B Treatment Opportunities in the US Increase Health Risks | AJMC
Most US patients eligible for hepatitis B virus (HBV) treatment remain untreated, raising risks of liver disease and complications.

I had a primary care doctor send me to a Chinese medicine guy who took my pulse and told me I had liver problems. What I actually had was asthma. Quacks abound.

yikes.

Also, "radical birth keeper" sounds like that character in the Handmaid's Tale who keeps all the handmaids in line. 🤮

Tho, chiropractors do a real thing (my experience is that it's basically PT)

Totes, grifters, etc. Just that the market/vulnerability is there to exploit becuase of a problem we can fix with public policy.
November 22, 2025 at 4:16 PM
practice. The difference in level of stress between the two was stark, not becuse I had less medical resources available, but becuse I didn't trust this doctor I'd never met and who was frankly rude when I felt vulnerable. So, I get why "the system is failing you" message would resonate.
November 22, 2025 at 3:39 PM
Well, the actionable take-away on systemic fix to me is that there are a lot of women who have no trust in the medical system - becuse it's not good at taking care of women. I birthed in hospitals twice, once with a midwife I trusted and once with a doctor I'd never met at a mixed midwife/doctor

And if it were me, I'd have had a texas-sized hanky to the face for cathing all the proud teacher-looking-on tears at the mayoral debates

Whoever did Mamdani's press training needs to let the world know so we can beat a path to their door and hand them our money. He's the poster child for sticking to his core message. ❤️
