Nihilism values nothing. Which is to say: "This is all just a bunch of a bullshit, huh?" Like all philosophies, it comes in various strains, taking a similar assumption and spinning off different conclusions about that. Like Existentialism, which elaborated upon Nihilism. It remains Nihilism, tho.

It's bot a threat, it's a declaration of purpose. They are telling legislators to let the shutdown happen to punish federal workers and damage the state.

It's not *simply* nihilism. Nihilism is like "modernism." It's a tendency, not a program itself. I am a Nihilist, but I abhor shit like this, because I see a void of purpose as a wealth of possibility. This is "Break Stuff"; Faithless, impotent, and angry. Mere lashing-out.

Oh yeah, Bonus March. Funny how I didn't learn that one in school.

His administration was notoriously corrupt. Lots of deregulation and putting the proverbial foxes in charge of the henhouse. Well, it happened before him, too, under Coolidge, he just let it be WAY more flagrant.

Ah, right. That argument would require they have empathy enough to care that other people have to live with their respective in-laws

Hoover was incompetent at best, but ultimately, I was interested in keeping the systems of graft going. Trump is just belligerently incompetent and burning everything down.

Thanks for the clarification. I vaguely knew about the U of U controversy but wasn't entirely sure of the details.

I think he's glad for the administrations queerphobic bigotry, but knows it would ruin his chance to be president someday if he publicly assented to the MAGA freakshow. But it would also ruin his chances if he substantially opposed it. The world's most polite ghoul.

Utahns. Ute (yoot) also gets used, but I think that's Mormons appropriating and trying to supercede the identity of the native Paiute peoples they committed atrocities against.

I doubt it's delusion. Politics is an indecent business. At best, a politician is a thoughtful hypocrite working for common good. At worst, a politician is an aspiring tyrant. Along that spectrum is lots of room for simpler cynical and self-serving motives.

The cold truth of politics is that only a sliver of the population have the freedom to give up any of their time to any kind of comprehensive political engagement. Until a crisis comes barreling toward them, most people will just vote along the line of some personal bugbear.

Crucial to point out; not merely Republican (anyone can join a political coalition), but also very crucial to the ideological and political coalition that makes his base.

Finally, a reasoning Boomers might comprehend.

When you cut through the noise, all of American politics is just various degrees of people projecting their unresolved paternal trauma.

If only there were someone around to flag up how poorly managed that station is.

Oh, I have terrible news about how one becomes the richest person on Earth.

You wear a dumb as fuck hat to fail to trick women into finding you interesting.

I wear a dumb as fuck hat because it's dumb as fuck and amuses me.

We are not the same.

At best, every person has just a vague notion of what they are Doing. I think we would all do well to behave accordingly.

Hey, I hear work leads to freedom. Think some German guy said that once.

A present and loving God would not permit such a vainglorious temple to human hubris and suffering.
