An NYC bodega in SoCal is just a mini-mart or convenience store. A taqueria is a restaurant selling tacos (and other similar food). If you mean “a common place to run into someone”, taqueria is fine. But if you envision a store that sells milk and eggs and candy etc., that is not a taqueria.
