While downloading data from our weirs in an unrestored peat gully we noticed healthy signs of revegetation behind the weir. Perhaps simple gully blocking is all it takes to initiate regeneration?

Thank goodness for recent rains over NE Scotland! These photos, taken approximately 10 days ago, show the dry conditions on the Cairngorm peatlands. We hope to see more rain before the summer.

We were at the @JamesHuttonInst high altitude peatland monitoring site on Friday, where we were doing final 2024 downloads and samples yesterday. The photo doesn't show how cold it was in a fierce wind! @peatmothership.bsky.social ❄️

No prizes for guessing where we were today. The Colosseum was impressive. We wanted to do the Forum and Palatine Hill, but it was too hot.

Monday, Rome, the Pantheon. The wide angle lens on my camera couldn't do justice to the magnificent dome. The Romans were extraordinary engineers!

Rome, Monday, we went to the Basilica Saint Peter. Very hot day. Pope gave an Angelus Address while we were waiting. Inside of Basilica is magnificent.

I've been remiss on my Italian holiday pics, so here are my Florence masterpieces. Monday, we had hoped to see the Duomo, but a 4 hour wait in +36 degrees heat wasn't on. So here's a piccy instead.

I'm going to bore ya all with my Italian holiday, starting with my room in Florence.
