You all died in 2016.
And yes, this is Hell.
Dunno what comes next. Evil and hostile actors are here to stay. Democracies seem unable to grasp the enormity of this danger, let alone act to prevent their own demise. Which, while possible, is in no way inevitable. But what can we do? Unclear yet. But I welcome any ideas.

As we repeatedly saw lately, large masses of people can be made to vote against their interests. Brexit, trump 2.0, other smaller elections are evidence. And this phenomenon only grows, pushed by hostile state actors using democracy to kill it. Right now, elections are sad jokes.

The advent of profit-oriented social media, started either in US (with its 'no-holds-barred' 1A + oligarchs) or in an antidemocratic state (CHN) marked the erasure of the 'informed and realistic citizenry' part. When *perception* can be decoupled from reality en masse, nothing works anymore.

"Free and fair elections" is predicated on an informed and involved citizenry that judges its reality and makes informed decisions as to what the way ahead is and who will lead it there. And that was mostly true until a couple of decades ago.
