Good day for mediocre bird photography
Aquatic bird (mom) and a trail of several tiny aquatic birdlings. Probably not ducks, but if an ornithologist/bird enthusiast wants to correct me on this feel free. These birds have black head, body and beaks, and marbled white and grey wings. The birdlings were small enough to probably fit three in your hand. Bald eagle sitting in a spruce tree. Sat nicely and posed for photos. Was occasionally joined by another bald eagle (not pictured). Unclear if there was any sort of nearby nest.

There is a person crouched on top of a corrugated steel pipe that is mostly submerged in very brown river water facing away from the camera. It’s hard to tell what they are doing. Further away from the pipe, there is still an ice crust on the river surface.

The local wetland hosts a lake and stream network that my lab is studying carbon cycling in! It also happens to be my favorite place for northern lights viewing (I have very few photos here that aren’t pointed at the sky because of this)

Tried to get a photo of Meeko in front of our tiny tree. He does not like taking portraits (and I have the scars to prove it). Here’s the photo I got when he was distracted by something outside, which ended up way cuter anyway

What's your favorite US city that isn't “your” city (not a hometown or current place of residence)??

Seattle, I miss you. Mt. Rainier viewshed, I miss you. Walkable city and public transit, I miss you. Paseo, I miss you. Seattle rent prices, I do not miss you at all :)

It’s nighttime, and the lights from inside the building make a very sharp reflection off the still waters of Drumheller Fountain. This photo was probably taken when Emily had samples to run in More Hall inadvisably late at night.
