I actually go through one of many optimizations I used for improving udaan.com's b2b app's startup performance by 2x (real world data!).

Does anyone know why would google.com take 21s to even initiate the request on firefox? Is my system or a firefox addon blocking it? It *is* my work laptop, so can their software be interfering *only* on chrome?

Firefox Developer Tools screenshot focus on Network tab's "Timings" panel on a request made to google.com. The Gantt chart shows 21s spent in "Blocked", while rest of the request from DNS resolution to Receiving bytes under 300ms Blocked Time spent in a queue waiting for a network connection. The browser imposes a limit on the number of simultaneous connections that can be made to a single server. In Firefox this defaults to 6, but can be changed using the network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server preference. If all connections are in use, the browser can’t download more resources until a connection is released.
