i know a shortcut through the woods
Anyway. I haven't been able to pin down whether the desert bluebells (Phacelia campanularia) are native in Arizona at all. In any case, notch-leaf scorpionweed (Phacelia crenulata) is a relative and really common in the spring desert here. Here's 2 pictures I took of that species last year.

The brand is Couroc, I think people collect them now. There's a quail design I like. I might have to get the matching poppy ice bucket too

Also a while ago I got this California poppy lacquer tray that I use for rolling um. Herbal cigarettes. It's so pretty, the inlay is metal and wood. The green teardrop shape is supposed to be the fruit of the poppy.

Wildflowers I seeded started coming up. These are in what I assume is maybe ¼ to ½ inch of "soil" (dirt). I think that both stunned their growth and maybe made em flower a little earlier. Kind of cute that they're so small but elsewhere in the yard there are much, much bigger individuals

I'm not really sure why the employees of the local book/thrift store labeled this black bowl "Big tity goth Gf". But I support them

Saw some coyotes today. Followed this one and its buddy for a while and then they evidently met up with some more friends in the wash and got very vocally rowdy

Also someone put a nativity scene in a little alcove across the wash

Went on a hike and saw a big quartz boulder. And then took a selfy with it

Interesting! I was doing pictures last night and the infrared makes the coals look pinkish. Does the same thing with electric stove coils

In Africa in particular, if I'm remembering right, some euphorbia species have taken on a similar ecological niche as cactuses, to the point that the forms can look really similar. Like this from wikipedia is a Euphorbia obesa next to a cactus. I think that kind of convergent evolution is super cool

I do like how the anthers on the male flowers sort of look like brain coral

Also FINALLY have female flowers on the watermelon. At this point I'm not sure they'll have enough light or time in warm weather to grow really well, but we'll see. Picture shows a female flower with the ovary behind it, which looks like a little miniature watermelon even before fertilization

Second cob was also ready. Not sure why the upper ends aren't developed on either, I'll have to look into it. Still pretty happy with these though!
