Another amusing example from Canada in 2011 when the NDP came out of nowhere to nearly sweep Quebec including lots of no-hope ridings... resulting in them electing some 20-somethings who couldn't speak French.

Therefore, if a party doesn't have anyone who wants to campaign in a hopeless election, they can parachute in a young person who wants a career in politics. It's great practice for when they run for real in a later election, plus it gives the party a chance to test how they campaign.

Another big difference is that in the UK (like most countries) there is zero requirement to live in the constituency you're running in.

Obviously it's an electoral advantage to be connnected to the local area, but it's not a requirement.

Or even more simply: vaccines work by making your immune system think it's fighting off something. Your immune system ramping up puts some stress on your body, hence why you often feel groggy for a day.

But it's nowhere *close* to the stress fighting a heavy viral infection causes.

Going up there in a few weeks to catch Cabaret Voltaire (or at least what's left of them)

Glasgow's always a treat.

Truly one of the great cockblocks of world history.

It's a common misunderstanding.

They didn't insert any months, merely renamed Quintilis and Sextilis.

What a wonderful memory.

I would have loved to have met him, sadly never got the chance.

As you may be able to guess, a very sad day for me

Close; Grafton Road in Kentish Town

I used to go to the café (on the right) when I lived in that area.

It's good, but I don't know if anything will top "Cameron's Conference Rap" from 10(!) years ago. His aloof speaking style just made the bit work perfectly.

Exactly.

It's hard to speak in absolute terms since the naturalisation path can be different depending on visa type, family, etc. However, the most "normal" route is that you attain ILR, wait a year, and then you can start your naturalisation process.

Good luck replacing a broken guitar string.

Strasbourg would be an amazing away day (the ex-Vieira derby?)

I'm still feeling disconnected from Palace though. Woody Johnson's arrival feels like the last straw to me.

Was tempted to renew my membership just for the Millwall match but think I'm going to stand firm.

Nah, last year Criterion did a 4K both in the US and UK. Still in print.

The pronunciation challenge starts with “Depeche Mode” and ends with “Shein”.

From “fast fashion” to fast fashion.

The aoûtiens are gone, the juilletistes have not yet retuned.

Unless an area improves incredibly dramatically (like from warzone to Mayberry) it is just impossible to convince an old person that crime is actually down, no matter how many graphs you show them. They're now more worried; that's all that counts.
