It seems to be one of the only American holiday celebrations that hasn't really been exported, but wow has every non-American friend we've invited to a Thanksgiving feast loved it!

Yeah, in general I'm not overflowing with sympathy for people who spend themselves into a hole to look good or whatever, but I do have some pity for them having to live with a mind where that seems like a good idea. Seems hellish to me.

(I would also believe that in fact other politicians didn't actually shut up and trump's the only one getting media boosted loudly enough that we all hear about it.)

Trump? Win or lose, he NEVER EVER shut up ever no matter how much we wanted him to, and I find it hard to believe it's not a huge reason for why he's been as successful as he has.

Kamala lost and basically shut up when she, if she'd been an actual leader worried about a fascist takeover of her country, would have gritted her teeth and gotten to to trying to organize a resistance.

Non Republicans have needed to do this so badly for so long. Biden won and he basically shut up (and got to work trying to do stuff, as far as I could tell).

If it's of interest, in the poster they're standing in front of a Kremlin tower, and the text is the first article of the Soviet 1936 constitution. "ARTICLE 1. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is a socialist state of workers and peasants."

Well, almost. They're stating they believe (and are we taking corporate statements at face value these days?) people even associated with those expressing those opinions are in physical danger, which is a much bigger statement

"I wish human life felt as valuable as it did before COVID, before the election and ASMR deportation videos and military force against the American people: before the world went mad." Hear hear!

Are those actually the photos the govt is distributing for display? Like, they had some choice in the matter? Vance there is clearly having stomach trouble, while the uppers have kicked in for half of Trump's face, and the other half is a mix of Bell's palsy and 'I dropped my mcmuffin'.

I've heard people lament how little changed after the black lives matter protests, but I've seen police complain how for job postings where previously they might have had a hundred applicants before they were lucky afterwards to get more than ten.

In terms of not crashing, I've done fine. In terms of not getting stopped for bicycling under the influence, I had to learn to be slightly sneakier.

Probably you're familiar with Temple Grandin 'one of the first autistic people to document the insights from her personal experiences with autism. She is a faculty member in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State University', but if not, she seems in line with your plans.

Which does make the uncharitable, not- loving- their- neighbor- as- themselves behavior of lots of professed Christians really confusing, but people are complicated.

One of my favorite online historians, @bretdevereaux.bsky.social often points out that people frequently really do believe in their ideologies, whatever those may be, and that people with other ones often have trouble with that fact.

The output sounds obsequious and manipulative because the language the model is trying to replicate came from people, who are, of course, often exactly that.

If I understand how they work, it didn't lie about anything, because there's no -as you point out- mind there to have any concept of truth, lies, or reality. It guessed at the text requested, then at a typical excuse for a mistake, then at a typical response to a calling-out.
