As an addendum: if you are traveling in France, if you are going through any small towns, you must visit the local church and the local WWI memorial (which are often in the same place). Every town has an ancient church, and every town has a memorial to the dead of the First World War

Just to really hammer home the disaster that was the first world war, here are just three memorial plaques I saw in France. They are *everywhere*. An entire generation was lost, and for what?

"In the forest [Gavrilo Princip] had a chance to get his eye in, shooting at trees. His ultimate goal was far more ambitious: "I am an adherent of the radical anarchist idea, which aims at destroying the present system through terrorism."

In 1914, Princip's wish was granted."
