Almost missed #nationalpuppyday!

#spay and #neuter, folks. These eight were born to a stray mom in a parking lot, and rescued at a day old, just before their shelter was buried. Happy they all survived, but seven are still waiting for homes.

You are looking at a black and white photograph taken in 1940 by the artist Rudy Burkhardt, entitled “Telephone Wires.” Your view is down a street with a few flat-bed delivery trucks and low-rise buildings off in the distance. A towering, blank white wall, with contrasting brick detailing at the corner occupies the front half of the picture. All this while the multitude of of power lines and telephone wires criss-cross back and forth, casting shadows.

"With the painted objects frontally lit, the transition from clarity to obscurity within this picture is also a journey from surface into depth, drawing us from the superficially self-evident towards unfathomable darkness. The bags are painted quite texturally with crisply impasted lights and something like a physical approximation of the thin plastic. What's in the bags is barely indicated, but because the surface of the bag and the effect of light transmitted through it is so truthful, I think the viewer will tend to accept it as a convincing token of the riches contained within." ~Conor Walton

This Hubble Space Telescope image shows the Egg Nebula (also known as CRL 2688), a preplanetary nebula with a distinct, bipolar structure. The image is dominated by a bright central region, shaped like an elongated hourglass or butterfly, with luminous arcs and knots emanating outward. These structures are created by the high-speed stellar winds and jets ejected by the dying star at the nebula's center. The object glows with a cool orange and white hue, speckled with bright points of light that are likely background stars and dense knots within the nebula. Dark, dusty lanes are interspersed within the glowing regions, adding a stark contrast to the intricate and dynamic structure of the nebula. LEDA 1313424, aptly nicknamed the Bullseye, is two and a half times the size of our Milky Way and has nine rings — six more than any other known galaxy. High-resolution imagery from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope confirmed eight rings, and data from the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii confirmed a ninth. Hubble and Keck also confirmed which galaxy dove through the Bullseye, creating these rings: the blue dwarf galaxy that sits to its immediate center-left. This glass block has a 2" diameter hole allowing prisoners fresh air and a small sense of freedom.

A pathway leads off in to the distance, flanked by tall, immaculately trimmed trees. The pathway is gravel, and makes a pleasant "crunchy" sound while walking. Trees must be trimmed every week to maintain such crisp edges. People are fishing in still waters. Tall trees flank the long pool, their reflections lay upon the quiet water.
