The sun shone on the snow-covered moor today during my nippy walk, with a chance to fly the drone. And yes, I have the legally required CAA flier ID.

Happy New Year to all my clients, friends, family and all those I've had the pleasure of meeting this year. May 2026 be peaceful and prosperous, and your New Year hangover not be too severe!

It's the time of the year for the customary glance back over the shoulder to view what happened for me in 2025. Here's a post on my photography blog with a retrospective of my year's activities with my camera: bobsmith.photo/2025/12/28/a...

I've upgraded my drone photography with the purchase of a new model. Here's rush-hour Keighley.

Going down a storm (thanks Claudia for the biblical rainfall) on Friday at Keighley Creative: a galaxy of comedians at the inaugural K-Town Comedy Club evening. Headlined by Jack Carroll and compered by Anthony J Brown, the audience was treated to a night of mirth from a varied line-up of comics

To Oxenhope Community Centre for a fundraiser for Sue Ryder Manorlands and Dementia Friendly Keighley. The Beatles Drive, mixing a beetle drive and songs from the Fab Four featured musicians Stu, Jack, Damo, Matt, Matt and my son Tom, in an ad hoc band. A great evening!

It was a pleasure to photograph the Airedale Hospital and Community Charity ball held at East Riddlesden Hall recently. The event raised more than £11,000 towards the emergency department’s appeal. Well done to the charity team for organising such a fabulous event. bobsmith.photo/2025/10/17/h...

Though Edinburgh rightly features on the tourist map, Glasgow was a great place to spend a few days. As the numerous logos attest: People Make Glasgow bobsmith.photo/2025/09/19/i...

A trip to the Yorkshire Dales for a proverbial piss-up in a brewery. My son Tom and his fellow Keighlian Stuart Burns played at the Wensleydale Brewery Bash with the band Shatner’s Bassoon, an amalgam of Groovy Revolution and Gold Jacks, who provided Bash-goers with a stonking selection of covers.

I was in Liverpool this week for a trade show, and the city was basking in June sunshine, making for a very pleasant walk along the Waterfront. I had time to ponder part of my ancestral roots in Merseyside.

Just back from a visit to York to see the excellent Nick Mohammed as his alter ego Mr Swallow in his Show Pony. I fancied an ice-cream and while enjoying my cornet I saw this fellow having a gander at the goodies on offer. His persistence was rewarded with some scraps of wafer from the vendor.

I spent the past few days in Blackpool as a delegate to the biennial National Union of Journalists’ conference. The Irish Sea breezes even dropped enough to allow me to put my drone in the air for a night shot of the town’s most famous landmark.

Just returned from an interesting outing. I, along with more than 40 of my colleagues from the National Union of Journalists, were among 200 or so representatives of regional media invited by the King and Queen to a Buckingham Palace reception. And a rare selfie taken in the quadrangle of the palace

I spent the weekend in London, visiting the Photography Show. Some of the advantages of visiting the show is to hear experts talk on varied subjects, but also the opportunity to snap some of the professional models in interesting lighting set-ups. This woman was certainly one of the most striking.

Though this looks like an industrial landscape, it’s actually part of the cultural centre of the Salford Quays area in Greater Manchester. The foreground is some of the structure of The Lowry theatre, with part of the Salford lift bridge visible through it.

I thought I’d post some of the shots I’ve taken with my phone’s camera to show we can all turn in some interesting images with the pocket marvel we all carry with us most of the time. As the saying goes: the best camera is the one you have with you.

On 27 January 1945, Red Army soldiers liberated the main Nazi Auschwitz concentration camp from German soldiers. They found about 7,000 prisoners. German Nazis murdered about 1.1 million people in the Auschwitz camps. A memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of the event will take place on Monday
