Important piece in @policyoptions.irpp.org where Trevor Potts from @e4dca.bsky.social argues it's time for proportional representation.

First-past-the-post weakens our democracy by disadvantaging minority voices and amplifying polarization.

It's time to rethink Canada's first-past-the-post system. It weakens our democracy by disadvantaging minority voices and amplifying polarization.

In this piece, Trevor Potts argues in favour of moving toward proportional representation.

Trump threats and national unity fears provide fresh opportunity to revisit how we vote
Canada is under threat. We need electoral reform to protect ourselves against political polarization, autocracy and foreign interference.

First-past-the-post means Canadian politics is built around winning suburban GTA swing ridings.

Proportional representation means politics would be built around earning support from every voter, no matter where they live.

1/ The Ontario election is well underway, but instead of uniting against Doug Ford, opposition parties are sniping at each other—even on issues they agree on.

Why? Because first-past-the-post forces them into a fight for survival.🧵

1/ Trump’s presidency should be a wake-up call for Canadians.

His chaotic leadership is just one symptom of a deeper problem—an outdated winner-take-all electoral system.

Let’s not assume we’re immune. 🧵

🚨New Post🚨

The United States has shown what happens when an outdated electoral system fuels division, disenfranchisement, and instability.

Canada still has a choice—will we learn from our neighbour’s mistakes, or will we continue down the same path?

Trudeau regrets that he was unable to force through the hand-picked non-proportional version of ranked ballot that would have favoured his party. Boo hoo. He should have listened to the experts and the public and brought in PR,and we'd be in a much better place. UNFORGIVABLE.
