I know, it objectively wasn't a loss for Liverpool. But the whole lame ultimatum seems self-defeating and genuinely weird.

Liverpool FC turned it into a win/lose Newcastle vs Liverpool thing - normally the fans do that, not the clubs.
July 18, 2025 at 7:54 AM
Mate, they are your fans not mine. I think probably because it wasn't a normal thing to do and the club made them think they might get Isak, when they could have just been happy with Ekitike.
July 18, 2025 at 7:53 AM
I literally onlyentioned him because you askedmwho had done the summer transfer plan, and it was him.
July 18, 2025 at 7:33 AM
Why were Liverpool fans acting as if it wasn't normal then?
July 18, 2025 at 6:24 AM
Maybe if they had told the papers, "Sell us Salah or, look out, we will buy Frimpong"
July 18, 2025 at 6:20 AM
Liverpool did not make an enquiry, at least at first, as Ornstein made clear. They did a weird non-formal "contact" and briefed it to the media.
July 17, 2025 at 10:51 PM
That is what Liverpool fans were calling it. Posting Godfather GIFs and all sorts, as if a public declaration of "Sell us your best player or else we will buy our backup target" was some amazing tactical move.
July 17, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Well, as I said above, instead of just putting a normal bid/enquiry in for Isak, then a normal bid/enquiry for Ekitike, making a big public "power play" via the media, setting themselves to make a good signing look like they have lost.
July 17, 2025 at 9:34 PM
Oh we are definitely pleased, there is a lot of it about at #nufc, but going back to status quo after a weird flex from LFC isn't really busy parade material.
July 17, 2025 at 9:27 PM
Yes absolutely

Lol Bild is the German version of The Sun

One guy in this thread, for an easy example. bsky.app/profile/dccl...
For me personally its not disappointment in Ekitike, as I think he'll be perfectly fine and help the team, rather a disappointment in not getting Isak who is on another level right now.
July 17, 2025 at 9:09 PM
No I am saying Mitchell was setting the kind of targets that should be scouted and the direction of the team. Maybe he wasn't ambitious enough, or didn't match what Eddie and the PIF wanted.
July 17, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Well what then? What has been the benefit of the whole "power play" thing unless you got Isak? Why not just do a normal bid or enquiry, then a normal bid or enquiry for Ekitike? It feels like risking a huge face plant for no reason
July 17, 2025 at 7:41 PM
I am saying Mitchell was his boss and setting the strategic direction
July 17, 2025 at 7:37 PM
It seems to have been calculated to demonstrate they are a "big club" and look hard, but without gaming out the reaction to every outcome.
July 17, 2025 at 7:34 PM
That is my point, I don't know why LFC exacerbated that disappointment by doing all this so publicly instead of a quiet, normal inquiry.
July 17, 2025 at 7:29 PM
No I am saying his plans were rubbish so he was sacked, and now Nickson and the Howes are moving forward without a pre-prepared plan
July 17, 2025 at 7:21 PM
You were asking who did the planning - before the end of the season it was absolutely him
July 17, 2025 at 4:16 PM
Bild is the German version of The Sun, I am dismissing that immediately
July 17, 2025 at 4:10 PM
Well it was Paul Mitchell behind the planning, and he got sacked for it immediately after he presented his plan to the chairman.
July 17, 2025 at 3:47 PM
But why do it so publicly? I have seen loads of Liverpool fans disappointed with Ekitike, who would otherwise have been delighted to have an upgrade on Darwin.
July 17, 2025 at 3:43 PM
I feel like signing Ekitike then watching all the Liverpool bloviating for six weeks, then still having Isak on 1 September would be one of the best feelings ever. Might not happen, but that would be such a great feeling.
