Every time I see this story posted, I ask myself why "munch" was used as the verb here. Was this necessary in the prompt to keep the responsible AI from kicking in and saying, "no, canceling contracts on the basis of a language model is idiotic, besides being unethical, so no I will not help."

Same, 100%. I worked on US Gov systems (not treasury) for several years and making any beneficial changes in prod isn't happening in that time frame. If they are just commenting out the audit logs and stealing the data, I could see that.

Ctrl-u is so ingrained here that I recall some years ago a GUI version of a gpg pinentry-type program didn't support it and I'm still angry about it. I also once tripped over gnome input sources which broke ctrl-u and wrote this bobcopeland.com/blog/2019/04...
