IIRC there was one (fortunately very local) family whose car just couldn't make it, and had to be driven home in my parents' 4-wheel drive SUV. They came back for their car a couple days later with their 2nd family vehicle, once the roads had improved.

Family after family tried to drive out, making it partway up before sliding down. Eventually, Dad, experienced in the technique, wound up having to take the wheel, get a running start from the back of the cul-de-sac, and get them to the top before walking down and driving another car up

My parents live at the bottom of a big, steep hill, in a cul-de-sac. One Christmas they were hosting Stepmom's entire extended family. The day started out warm enough to melt a lot of the snowpack, but by the time everyone was ready to head home, all the melting had frozen. The hill was an ice sheet
