I think it’s mostly driven by Phillies fans? Turner is having a “quietly good at everything” season and it’s just more obvious to the casual fan to chant “M-V-P!” for your lovable beefy boi with 45+ dingers.

It is in fact true that if you arrest all homeless people, you will no longer have homeless people on the street. But that does not make it a good solution!

Assuming the same transfer fee/wages, would you rather have a player who underperformed xG by 20% the prior season, or overperformed by 20%? And if there’s an obvious answer, what’s the premium you’re willing to pay for such a player relative to his converse?

How should I think about the baseline minutes share for a player who *doesn’t* get transferred? Among top-flight clubs I am guessing there is a lot of season-to-season variability in playing time even among holdovers. Still, the transfer stats are… not great!
