Having recently read a lot of very misleading stuff, I can say that it is very plausible, to non scientists and non specialists like I am. This is part of the problem, it is written aimed at folks that struggle to find reliable sources; the data is trash but one sided trash.

I have now read a few. I am glad I did as I now have a far better, more balanced view on what is still a fascinating visitor. But, importantly I get a better sense of the science and less about the sensationalist claims.

That will be interesting, thank you. I feel that mainstream media has no clue about science and are not covering matters due to ignorance on the merits or otherwise of the distinct views.

I am curious, not being any kind of an expert, what astrophysicists think of Loeb’s pronouncements. On the one hand I applaud him for keeping options on the table and I also realise that it is unusual and uncomfortable. Do folks doubt him? If so why?

Arguably the same can be said about shampoos. They cost pence to make, but are expensively packaged, marketed. Obviously done smell better than others, but people have long washed their hair with soap or similar.

Indeed. People that are thinking of setting up on their own would find UBI useful, as it takes the risk out to some extent. But if you know it is limited in duration then the worry is there; what if it goes belly up, and then the UBI ends. I could be in a worse situation.

I find it interesting but counter to everything that I have heard. In places where it has been tested, in articles that I have read, UBI has been very successful. Entrepreneurship has increased and employment has not been affected negatively.

I know that 30 or so years ago it was puritanically controlled, and at the time it felt OTT, but I think it needs to go back to something like that, because the industry is a hydra monster preying on the vulnerable and desperate.

I know that given the rise of online options it is a much harder industry to deal with, but it is vile. If there are way to tax it I would do to the hilt, but I also think it should be banned from advertising. I am so fed up with the bombardment on radio, online, TV and all channels.
