Forging knives and other items for charity.
Boardman Forge will be teaching an introductory course in Blacksmithing at the Eureka Springs School of the Arts next March. It is entitled “Moving Metal 101”
Only 6 spots available at this time.
We will be showing what can be possible when you have an idea. As Doug Stowe says “Make, Fix, Create”

The mini-scuffle (on the right) was raffled off last night at a meeting for the Master Gardeners and netted $92 in donations for the group. It was much more finished than in this picture. This is what we do. Give us an idea and a cause and it can happen. Now working on a Kiwanis auction for kids!

Playing around with a couple different key chain ideas. (Shorts stints in the forge on these days) The curvy knots are okay as long as they are not too heavy. The cancer ribbon needs some work but it is getting close to what I envision. Key chains need to be light, smooth and a little meaningful.

Done and delivered. The sheath will be finished shortly. This tool is uber-sharp! Pruning knife. 17 inches long.
July 10, 2025 at 11:58 PM
Almost done and ready to hand off to the organizations that requested them. The “mini-scuffle “ on the right is a high carbon blade with a mild shaft with a walnut handle. I try to leave the handles a little big and encourage the user to make it their own. The pruning knife is 80crv2. Stupid sharp!

So it really too hot to be firing up the forge but…..a couple of garden tools needed to be hardened. One will be offered to the master gardeners for some fund raising. The other is a request from the street walk. If you make something that looks like something you saw, is that forgery or copying?

Progress as promised!
Letters have been sent with checks to this year’s 4 different charities. We are excited for more “forging forward “ in our community this year.

The Street Walk did “okay”.
We met our goal to double our donations from last year except I was hoping to exceed my modest goal. Our prices were low and we didn’t take credit cards.
No one made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because they thought they could only do a little.

The Friends of the Library is
doing great work in our area.
The new library construction broke ground last month and part of the funds we raise this year will help supply the furnishings inside the building. The old library was very small and our community needs more space and new technology. Yah!

People Helping People is a local group in the county that helps people (right?) pay for their prescription medications.
Our friend who passed away in the fall was a big supporter and we will continue his efforts.
100% of all sales at the Street Walk are donated to 4 local charities. Feels good!

Portable post vise stand. Mounted on 3/4” plywood to be easily moved with a dolly and then attached to a bigger piece of plywood to use at the street walk.
3 more days to get everything done. Rain in the forecast. Fingers crossed.

Bowie letter opener with butcher block desk stand. (just sharp enough to open the mail!)

One of the other groups we are donating to is our local food bank: Flint Steet food bank.
Every town has one (or should).
It serves hundreds of people each year and has been the focus of our Boy Scout (now Scouting BSA) food drives for 30 years. Please keep your local food bank in mind each day.

My youngest son has made a pair of almost identical eastern style cleavers. A coarse grind finish with cherry handles. They have a very good feel to them. I will try to make a matching cutting board to go with one of them out of the same board as the handles. Very nice!

Closer look

I call this a “campfire companion “. (Cast iron pot not included”
The chain has 2 hooks you can adjust up or down. Easy to set up and easy to store. Not good for backpacking though.

The handles are looking better. Still have to put an edge on all of them. Going to stay with Appleseed edge on the Pesh.
The chef’s knives will be “stupid” sharp before it’s all done.
May 9, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Handles glued up on the Pesh Kabz and the 2 chef’s knives. Could not sand all the hammer marks out of the one chef knife. That one will go for a significantly lower price. The “good” one has a matching cherry cutting board to go with it. Literally made out of the same board as the handle.

Did I ruin it? It’s not as bad as I thought would look. It will go into the inventory. 11 days out from the street walk, all sales are being donated to 4 local causes. People Helping People is one of them. They help folks with their prescription bills. I will feature the other 3 groups as we go.

Kinda pushing my luck on this design. I have a little twist to this project that will either be visually beneficial or very annoying.
Tomorrow will tell.

I was not sure that I was going to like this “wider” version of the Celtic cross. This wall hanger is about 14” long. Maybe a little bigger than most people would want to display but not by much.
It’s kind of turning out to be a piece that I may make some more of.

Sometimes the flux exaggerates the color of the forge flame. Cool!

A signature piece ready for the street walk. Still have to make a wall hanger for my sister.
A promise is a promise…..

Scuffle hoe. It will painted before I give it to the church gardener.
Repurposed lawn mower blade.
