I'm really excited to build on this type of work in my ongoing HUNT AI for Health project funded by The Liaison Committee for Education, Research and Innovation in Central Norway.

This is a project from my University of Michigan doctoral lab with Dr. Cristen Willer and led by collaborator Associate Professor Xu Shi & first author Dr. Kuan Han Wu #goblue

We demonstrate the additive power of integrating GWAS- and EHR-derived risk scores to predict heart failure (HF) cases prior to diagnosis. We show that including both polygenic risk score & a clinical risk score improves prediction performance beyond baseline for HF up to 10 years before diagnosis.

🥼 Our wonderful colleagues in the Shavit lab, especially Queena Zhao, induced thrombosis in zebrafish after CRISPR/Cas9 knockdown of 6 genes. This provided supportive evidence for the role of RASIP1 and TC2N in the modification of human VTE.

🧬 During the first iteration of the Global Biobank Meta-analysis (led by Wei Zhou) we took a deep-dive into the VTE GWAS results to prioritize causal genes at the 38 significant loci using integrative bioinformatic gene prioritization.
