We stand with B’nai B’rith Canada, @cijainfo.bsky.social and all the Canadian organizations in calling for Toronto’s integrity commissioner to investigate Chow’s hateful conduct carried out in her official capacity.

This blatant, reckless spread of a vicious falsehood—with anti-Semitism surging across the globe—echoes an age-old blood libel against Jews and threatens the safety and well-being of Toronto’s Jewish community.

For a Muslim-majority nation to strengthen ties with Israel—especially at a time of surging anti-Semitism and mounting efforts to isolate Israel on the world stage—shows a commitment to religious tolerance and meaningful cooperation.

B’nai B’rith will continue to monitor Mayor-elect Mamdani’s actions closely and speak out forcefully against rhetoric or policies that threaten the Jewish community, undermine democratic values or legitimize hatred. We will hold him fully accountable from day one.

His election represents a foreboding moment for Jewish New Yorkers and the broader fight against anti-Semitism. We refuse to allow hostility toward Jews and Israel to become normalized in public life.

We will be watching closely to see that the new mayor protects the vulnerable Jewish population from security threats.

He must also desist from defaming the Jewish state and invariably contributing to the increase of anti-Semitism in his city.

We continue to be concerned by the administration’s efforts to dismiss federal workers. Federal employees play an indispensable role in ensuring that seniors have access to federal resources and services. Fewer workers could mean reduced access to these vital programs that older adults depend on.

Lack of access to affordable medical care endangers older adults, who may forgo preventive check-ups and medications vital to their well-being.

We are worried that Congress has yet to find a bipartisan solution to extend Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits that ensure older adults have access to affordable healthcare. We are alarmed by the prospect of older adults’ premiums rising by thousands of dollars.

We are closely monitoring how the shutdown impacts the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) senior housing program. The longer the shutdown goes on, the more difficult it could be for HUD to fulfill its mission of providing affordable housing.

We are troubled by the news that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) might not be able to meet its obligations this month. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, SNAP helps 6.5 million older adults (60+) afford their basic nutrition needs.

We urge the Concertgebouw to reverse this bigoted decision immediately and allow the celebration to proceed as planned.
