Writer, editor, ghost, podcaster. marketer, for more than *cough. cough* 60 years. at thebradmunson.com. Thoughts on the insane amount of pop cult I absorb and the job, joy, agony, fascination of storytelling.
Working on an "evil clown" story (sort of) in audio form right now -- TK, as we used to say in copyediting. But it reminded me of a cover for a wfh novel I never actually got to write. I own the cover now; all I need to do is actually have a story to tell. But DAMN, it's spooky...

#0siris, on Amazon Prime, is a noisy, shadowy new sf-action pic filled with BFGs that never run out of ammo. Decent sfx, but someone might want to tell the filmmakers that we prefer an actual plot with our gunfire, and characters that are more than NPCs in a forgettable FPO. Maybe next time.

There's no good reason why I've enjoyed #LegoMasters so much. It's grown people, Making insanely complicated LEGO constructs. With Will Arnett relentlessly teasing them and ridiculing the network. But Arnett is being replaced by Nick Cannon -- NICK CANNON -- next season. So I be done.

Very sad to see #ResidentAlien go, but not surprised. Glad, instead, that we got so many seasons of this funny, sweet, surprisingly smart show with All The Best People. Also happy they've tied up almost all the plot threads already. Still, I admit I was hoping for seven seasons and a movie.

@DropoutTV, in general, and #GameChanger, in particular, is an absolute blast, especially this season of GameChanger. Not a game show, not a comedy show; a mind-altering experience. 7 seasons, watch them all right up to this week. Laugh, shout, scream and cry along with the rest of us!

I'm catching up on the Dexter revivifications (meh), and was delighted to see #ClancyBrown as the big bad in #DexterNewBlood. What an actor. What a voice. More than 350 acting credits, live action and voice. Character actors like him are rare and wonderful but rarely get the attention they deserve.

THE OUTSIDER is one of the best King adaptations ever, from novelist Richard Price with brilliant performances from #CynthiaErivo, #BenMendelsohn and so many others. Almost forgotten because it premiered in January 2020, it is deep, terrifying, touching amazing. On HBO Max and Amazon Prime.

#Revival is kinda-sorta a #zombie story, but it's way more interesting than just another #TWD rip. And it stars Melanie Scrofano (Wynona Earp, Strange New Worlds, Letterkenny), so of COURSE I'm there. A little violent, a little sexy (like Scorafino herself), and wholly unexpected.

#ResidentAlien just keeps getting better and better, but the latest episode with Stephen Root as @alantudyk.bsky.social ‘s Dad is just too damn good to be true.

I would listen to either Nathan Fillion or Alan Tudyk do anything. They could fart the alphabet and I'd be there. Now they're planning a new podcast, "Once We Were Spacemen," where they interview various sci fi pop cult celebs. I'm ready!

Just found out there’s a Shel Silverstein postage stamp. Maybe there is a wise and benevolent God after all.

Nahhhh …

Nat Cassidy is a damn genius at storytelling, and I hate him for it. Pure envy, I admit it. And his newest, When the Wolf Comes Home, is his best yet. Read it. Read ALL of his stuff; And read more about my love/hate relationship with Cassidy in my blog. Link in bio, y'dork.

I worked with Dean Lowell, @lolofilm.bsky.social, on a book in the #WolfCop universe a long time ago -- great fun and a good guy. SO good to see his new film, #DieAlone, getting some well-deserved attention! Go, Lo!

The first 7:30 or so of #Heretic is a textbook example of establishing backstory and character without interminable awkward dialogue, a blatant info dump, or voice over. #ScottBeck & #bryanWoods continue to show us they know their stuff. And #SophieThatcher, #ChloeEast? So strong, so fast. Terrific.

I love to watch my Staffy mix Raven paw at her bedding to get it just right. She’s so intense, so focused, and she’ll keep at it forever, until she’s got it JUST RIGHT. Then she collapses on it and is asleep in seconds. SECONDS. What a #dog.

My last act of defiance at Barnes and Noble today: covered up a stack of Hillbilly Elegy with their two copies of @keithrosson.bsky.social ‘s FEVER HOUSE then bought a gift copy on @bookshop-org.bsky.social for an influential friend. From the B&N parking lot. Hah!

My familial Lutheran Church, built and supported by Swedish immigrants from Minnesota to California after WWII, built it of cinderblock in the early 50s and it still stands. Swedes to not screw around.

Visited a ridiculously busy Barnes and Noble today (gift cards! Yow!) and discovered a new fantasy novel I can’t wait to get into …

I've enjoyed #ColinfromAccounts since I stumbled on it browsing Australian content. Very pleased to see it show up on #Paramount+. So why hasn't Season Three been greenlit? Haven't heard a thing since late September. Come along now! Smart, funny, touching, unexpected. What more could you want?

Thank God for VPN; I got to watch the #DoctorWho Christmas special on Christmas Day itself. Exactly what I hoped for: warm, clever, fast, exactly the right amount of running and time-wimey nonsense & an appropriately maudliln uplifting ending. Moffat did well for us this; can't wait for what's next.

A terrible natural disaster in a small desert town gets impossibly worse when eyeless, skinless, sharp-edged creatures of every size and shape start creeping and soaring out of the rain… and killing everything that moves. amzn.to/3ZKV6Lk

At first, I saw #TheSubstance, as not much more than a pretty good body horror flick until the last act. Then the folks on #TheHorrorVirgin gave me a completely different angle, and ... oof. A smart & disturbing take. Give a listen and see if you agree: www.horrorvirgin.com/podcast/epis...

#Matlock has been a complete unexpected pleasure, and I'll look forward to the continuation in the new year. I expected nothing more than another tired reboot, not this clever and wonderfully acted meta-original. Of course I'd watch #KathyBates fart the phone book.

#SpinTheBottle is a so-so “ cursed party game” #horror flick with far better acting and directing than it deserves. With #JustinLong with a walrus mustache in a yhankkesssupporting role that doesn’t pay off. #Barbarian it ain’t.
