BMA Northern Resident Doctors Committee
@bmanorthernrrdc.bsky.social
We are the BMA’s Northern Resident Doctors Committee. We represent resident doctors across NE England & Cumbria.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Sulaymaan Al Majid, our former Co-Chair.

We offer our sincere condolences to Dr Al Majid’s family and friends.

We’re hugely grateful for his efforts in standing up for thousands of northern doctors between 2022-24.

Sobering.

We note that the North East is the only region in the UK where the number of senior anaesthetists has decreased.

Yet, the North East oozes talented doctors wanting to pursue an anaesthetic career.

The only way to bring waiting lists down is to fix the bottleneck, particularly in the NE.
Sobering from @rcoanews.bsky.social with this new report.

Rising senior anaesthetic gaps nationally.

1.4 million operations not happening.

Thousands of qualified doctors want to pursue anaesthetics can’t (3520 for just 540 training jobs).

The bottleneck needs fixed!

Genuinely pleased to see this today.

However in the north, we are expecting the NENC’s decision around a possible regional rate cap soon.

We’re watching both this dispute & NENC’s decision extremely closely.

P.S. bringing @bmanorthernrrdc.bsky.social over here too!
