Isn’t this broadly the same - not one Arsenal combination includes a forward player and only one doesn’t include a defender?

If anything the spurs one is more attacking as it includes a forward (Kudus)?

Wouldn’t that be exactly the same for any team that passes out from the back?

He was too slow if I remember correctly

For context on the lack of open play chances in the league in general - Saka’s (arguably Arsenal’s most attacking player) goal at the weekend was his first in open play away from home in over a year. AND that came about as a result of a high press and an error of the opposition player.
November 10, 2025 at 12:28 PM
It’s important not to have too binary a view though - looking back at SAF’s term at United he frequently deployed destroyers in games where he needed to frustrate the opposition.

Palhina has a role in the team it’s just not every game where we need that style of player

I wonder if it’s okay when Romero is in the backline because Palinha gives him more licence to play progressive passes while also stopping potential counters
November 10, 2025 at 9:10 AM
Agreed - there have been some really poor performances this season.

I would put that down to the amount of rotation Frank has done, over time the impact of that should reduce.

Hopefully Romero will be injured through this international break and take some rest instead of playing for Argentina

Or third?

I’m getting that you might be a glass half empty chap James?

And is there a differential based on the fact city won the quadruple that season and had a monumental squad?

Like the Busquets situation at Barca - due to the amazing players around him passing stats looked great even though they were basic?

It’s not a race we can win straight away but it may work out over time.

I’ve been pragmatic for all the managers we have had in recent years until it really blows up.

I was gutted about Ange getting sacked but also understood why.

I’m hopeful Frank can be a new Poch with time 🤞
November 9, 2025 at 10:44 PM
Is it easy to pull up Palhinia’s stats for that season too? Wasn’t he at Fulham then?
November 9, 2025 at 10:42 PM
I don’t know what the underlying stats say but he’s top of the league right now.
November 9, 2025 at 10:40 PM
Isn’t that what Frank is trying to do?
November 9, 2025 at 10:39 PM
I’m not convinced Rodri is an elite passer.

Obvs if the stats say so then I stand corrected but it always looks like he breaks up play and hands it off to someone more creative.
November 9, 2025 at 10:26 PM
BUT they rely on set plays to actually score goals.

Their field tilt is still filled with really conservative sideways football.
November 9, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Thiago is a beast though - strong fast and a decent passer.

How do Brentford find him and we can’t?

Solanke can lead the line when he gets back and Tel will grow into it but neither are aerially dominant.
November 9, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Quoting Carra never helps a football arguement - Man United always had a destroyer through the Fergie years, Rodri got Ballon D’or for being the worlds best destroyer.

And Arsenal were competing with Bayern for Palinha last season and lost out meaning they deployed Partey there for another season.
