These compressed photos (and my misaligned BVM) don't do justice to how gorgeous this game still is today, especially on original hardware. There's a very good reason why Prime 2's art direction is (debatably) the best in the whole series.

In Air Riders, you can actually SEE the items you'll get from cracked item boxes before breaking them
Most boxes will break in 0.5 seconds
Sakurai had absolutely ZERO reason adding this level of detail to Air Riders when most players won't even notice it
