Felt inspired
In this picture, 4 characters are shown. From left to right is Metal Sonic, Metal Mario, Sonic and Mario. Metal Sonic and Mario are colliding fists with noticeable distaste for each other, whereas Sonic and Metal Mario have a sort of cocky approach to one another. The piece is inspired by the song "Occasional Rivalry" by Cow, a fun vocal and song mix of different voice clips and game music from Sonic and Mario, and a recent (as of within 24 hours of posting this) take on Cow's piece done by UltimateB3D, which takes the concept of Occasional Rivalry and replaces voice clips and music with that of Metal Mario and Metal Sonic and their musical motifs.

A little behind on posting, so here’s what I’ve been working on! Here are the reference sheets for Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles for my AU! #sonicthehedgehog

It’s our true blue hero! The process of designing him and the others started a little over 10 years ago before I even had the conception of the story! Here, we see the designs Sonic and co. go through throughout the AU. My goal nowadays is to keep the designs somewhat fresh but also simple and reminiscent of the original designs. As stated in some of the artworks, you’ll see a brief description of what parts in the story the characters change and experience during those times. For Sonic, he goes through and immense amount of stress before he mellows back out into the carefree hedgehog we know and love. Tails was one of the only characters in this AU next to Knuckles that didn’t experience too much change with his regular design. However in the very beginning when the concept of the story was conceived, Tails was meant to be turned into the Tails Doll! What started as a poor idea to execute a subpar scary story, quickly transformed into a SonAmy fanfic, and now into that story I have planned. Some elements of the past remain though, as Metal Tails retains few elements of the Tails Doll in its design. The only major change he received to his main look was his prosthetic robot arms, which he actually didn’t need until a later revision when I decided to take them away. When he DID first have them though, they were just orange Metal Sonic arms. The current look is actually based on the arms of the Badnik, Coconuts, from Sonic 2 on Genesis and Megadrive! Ultimately I decided not to give him darker markings similar to how many others would draw older looks for his final design, due to keeping a little bit closer to his pre-established look. He’s already so perfect, why would I ever wanna change him? (Except maybe turn him into a robot and take his arms…sorry little buddy!;;) A late birthday gift for the red echidna, Knuckles, as stated in the last picture’s ALT, has actually changed very little. The scar on his eye was still an original element, and before the final design’s necklace was implemented (which is based on the Fleetway comic’s depiction of the character), he dawned a brown, torn scarf, left over from disguises that he would use to infiltrate Eggman bases. His middle design is fairly new, as I wanted to give him something that popped for the “Training Arc” he goes through with Amy and Shadow (both of which have their reference sheets up next). I believe Knuckles would take it upon himself to train Amy in the ways of his ancestors before him, and think of such task as a great duty, similar to being the sole guardian of the Master Emerald, so he wears the late chief’s golden necklace, and several other Echidna Tribe garb and markings to honor his lineage.

This is the first recorded picture of Sonic that I have ever drawn, all the way back from 2008. That’s almost 17 years ago! Crazy how far I’ve come since then, and I know I’m gonna keep getting better from here. Working on backgrounds and better color picking techniques will most likely be the thing I focus on next! Good ol’ Sonic the Hedgehog! Still experimenting with shading and coloring styles, but I’m very proud of how this has turned out. One of the best Sonic’s I’ve drawn to date! I can’t remember the last time I drew this guy! Very proud of the texturing I worked on here. If you look closely, you can see a reflection of the moon in his eyes! A neat detail that unfortunately isn’t that visible in the finished full piece.

Another AU post!

Metal Sonic and…Metal Tails?! I wonder if this is a new robot Eggman made or…maybe something else?

Designs for Metal Sonic and Metal Tails for my AU, titled Sonic: 4 Years Later. This Metal Sonic is an upgraded version of base Metal Sonic, designed to match Sonic’s new abilities and developments during his time away in the Special Zone with the Chaotix. He has a power core loaded into his forehead, expanding Metal’s already impressive abilities and power output. Metal Tails, however, is NOT an invention of Eggman’s. Rather, it’s Tails HIMSELF turned into a robot through roboticization. Sometime during Sonic’s departure, a massive Eggman attack launched around the world, destroying many major cities, outposts and landmarks, and during this attack, Tails is overpowered and kidnapped by Metal Sonic and Eggman, being turned into a fighting machine to work for him, and alongside Metal. Although Metal Sonic and Metal Tails are able to work off of each other the same way Sonic and Tails do, Metal Sonic deep down knows that Metal Tails is, at his core, still alive. He despises him for that, despite feeling the need to protect him. This causes Metal Sonic to question the logic of his own existence, and his reasoning to continue serving Eggman.

Haven’t updated y’all on Tails from the last post! He’s okay! He has prosthetics for the moment and he WILL get his arms back…eventually.

Mass post!! After the las drawing I posted, I got a huge surge of creative energy and decided to draw a WHOLE bunch more! (Mind the typo in the first one, I JUST realized it was there).

First two are a sort of Frontiers rewrite (but really I just liked the pose) and the last 2 are from my Sonic AU!
