My daughter refers to Steely Dan’s music as “Olive Garden music,” and she gives me tons of crap about it. But if she’d really listen to it, she’ll find a robust arrangement of actual music and instruments not commonly found in whatever crap she listens to.

I concur with only the final point in the quote. I am convinced the primary motivation for hostilities with Venezuela is control over their oil industry. Same with Somalia: it’s not about Christians. It’s about their oil industry. Trump sees dollar signs, full stop.

I struggle with this partly because writing helps me process. I keep a blog that I really write in for me. By the end of most posts I “have my arms around” the subject event. So typically in email I’ll draft para after para and then cut it down, or blow it all away in favor of “let’s discuss.”

I struggle with this. I’ve learned that business email should be two or three sentences. But my work is highly technical, so for people who ask for what’s and how’s I offer a short response that suggests we meet so I can explain. It took me a long time to reach this point. Trust.
