I kinda like the Big-Fin Jellyfish or other such mega-deep-see creatures. Angler fish even.

Angels are meant to be beyond our comprehension, and the deep see... It's WELL beyond mine. Creepy as hell. Maybe a crab for the funny "crabs are the perfect evolution" in which case, horseshoe crab.

Seeing a game where you make your own spells I have to ask- Have you perchance seen or heard of Noita? That may be a lovely source of inspiration.
