I do have to acknowledge that i'm sorta arguing from the position of the enemy, because this does essentially rely on an infinite growth mindset, but alas our entire world is built on that so if that stops being true in a widespread manner, then a deficit would be the least of humanity's problems

obviously the US is fucking up the last part, but running a deficit is not unsustainable - running a deficit because you exclusively spend money on dipshit things and then undermine even domestic faith in your ability to service your debts is unsustainable.

i mean generally speaking the rest of the world doesn't matter as much since most government borrowing (speaking generally, not even about just the US) is domestically sourced

just has to be spent in the right places and it will increase government revenues (and therefore the debt is serviceable)

in case someone is wondering how this is possible, it is because direct-to-people spending often has returns of like, >$3-on-the-dollar, and therefore a modest taxation scheme (say, 30%) will return at least 100% of money invested into these programs.

so long, of course, that the us doesn't do something stupid like make everyone question whether they would ever service that debt or just default on it because the government is closed for like two months randomly.

yup - it basically just matters why there is a deficit. so long as it is being spent on, say, giving money to people who will spend it, building something that will employ people (and therefore give money to people who will spend it), etc, generally speaking a deficit of virtually any size is fine
