If you read all this, thank you! And thank you for supporting BMF. I just wanted to be transparent about where I’m at and announce my intention to overhaul the site’s code. If I pass any major milestones, I’ll be sure to update again in the future. 🩷

I have no exact timeline for this because of my health, and admittedly updates will probably still be delayed for a while as I work on this. But it should make BMF easier for me to work on in the future, and I’m excited about bringing my baby (this website) up to speed.

Some other goals include fixing bugs in various tools and even rebuilding a couple from the ground up. I would also like to create the site in such a way that the theme changer in the site’s footer can change far more than colors and header image, if I ever desire to play with that more.

In the process of making things easier for future me and cleaning up BMF’s code, I also want to make BMF much more accessible (screen readers, keyboard navigation, etc) well above the current site standard. The accessibility options page is a bandaid fix on my old code and not a proper overhaul.

I am dedicated to keeping BMF “old-school”, as in I want to create everything in vanilla HTML/CSS/JS and do not want to use fancier technologies or external libraries unless absolutely necessary. This is a personal preference of mine. So don’t worry, the site should look and feel the same.

Even at the site’s current size, this is going to be a big ordeal, and this is probably the last time I’m ever going to do it (I have done an overhaul twice before in BMF’s lifespan) so I need to make sure it sticks. Fully future-proofing the site is impossible, but I want to get the closest I can.

I have been thinking for months now that BMF has gotten so big that if I want to update how this site works, I need to do it NOW, because adding any more work overhauling even more pages in the future would get to the point of not being possible for me to do by myself, and I do not want help.

As a result, the code on BMF is… outdated to say the least. I won’t bore you all with all the technicalities, but working on top of my old code has been frustrating and tiresome for a while now, especially as the stuff I want to make gets more complex, like the PCNY distribution machine recreation.

While the first two points are largely out of my control, point three is what I want to highlight here. I started BMF when I didn’t know anything about website development or coding. Actually, I learned everything I know due to sheer stubbornness with wanting to make this site real.

1. I am disabled and in a bit of a war to get proper healthcare. It is sometimes unpredictable how well I will be at any given time.
2. For the first time since dropping out in 2019 due to health issues, I am now in college again. This obviously eats at my free time.
3. BMF is cumbersome to work on.
