Passing just gets you a single matchstick, but you need to shed all cards and matchsticks to win. So you want to strategically pass to pick up some ability to manipulate cards, but not wait too long to start playing cards.

This has proven to be one of my toughest solo games, so maybe a little strange flavor is what's in order!
